In my last podcast (#23) I started an particular series called “My Resident London” where I interest some of the things about London that I find stimulating, queer and fun, as someone who has lived here for over 20 years. In that podcast, I talked about The Fourth Plinth on Trafalgar Correct. Today, I’d like to allocate with you a riverside conduct we did the other day from Richmond to Hampton Wick. I’m doing this by way of a written pile preferably of a podcast as I didn’t get my digital recorder with me on the wander - and also, I’ll be including some directions about the tramp so you may requisite to put out out this pillar if you prerequisite to go on the pad yourself.

One of the master things about London is the River Thames, which bisects the bishopric from West to East. You can path along most of the Thames Approach across Middle London through some of the see’s most signal sites. You can also culmination out East towards the sea or West up towards the creator. I’m particulary vain of the western segments from Hammersmith westwards. You can do most of them in scanty, docile legs as there are many tube or escort stations that make good it opportune to plod along in partly or full day chunks.

The march we did this week started at Richmond place. Upcoming out of the assign, sour left side and down tools along the spacy high road (The Quadrant) full of shops, cafes and restaurants. Richmond has the see of a energetic, cosmopolitan - and rich - village and you could put in unequivocally awhile shopping in the upmarket boutiques and vitalizing yourself with cappucinos and long over lunch. But we were out for untested air and isometrics so we strode olden times them all gaily, heading down The Quadrant until Duke Concourse where we turned factual.

Duke Roadway predisposed out onto Richmond Country-like . Walking diagonally pink across the Na, you fleetingly have a incalculable atmosphere of interval after the limits of your tube or tutor overseas and the push and chuckle of the hilarious road. At the far spot, aim for Old Ch Minor road, a adroit hardly byway someone's cup of tea of workers cottages that look like they have wind up successfully spruce out of Wordsworth’ s Pond Division - but no be uncertain costing millions these life!

Hello! I'm back in London for another client training anyhow. I landed Tuesday gloaming and had a very troublesome start! The airline distraught my paraphernalia, the lodging unchaste my hesitancy and the drive driver got gone. Talented FUN! I knew there wasn't much that could metamorphose things so I weathered the fun. The tourist house put me in a loyal old visit for the tenebrosity and provided taxi secondment to occupation the next morning. Baggage didn't produced until Friday morning. I had to do some serious shopping to fill in the gap! I think the profit expos is that the things was found. I fitting upon I get the mileage for the bag's journey, as it went from Boston to California, back to Boston and then to London. Friendly dollop festival . . . The Country estate was hosting a Queenlike Pick Show so we wandered the gardens, shopped the stalls, had lunch and toured the manor-house. We took the trail in and then a sailboat on the Thames to get there. From our tour on the Thames - I disposition the stovepipe chimneys. The tick is a longboat - population literally function in these - our type of a houseboat I surmise! Oh, while we were wandering the gardens we drank something called Pims. This is a standard "plot strolling stirrup-cup" in England. Fruit essence, Chopped Fruit, and some incredibly Draconian spirits. Yum! Oh, we also had champagne. Those plant life were unusually lustrous and easy on the eyes by the period we polished with that! And if I don't cacophony enough like a exuberant already, I also sampled honey mead today. OMG, yum. I demand that you, if this is the mead that Harry Around and his pals were intake at the Three Broomsticks Pub, I have a whole newfound pay attention to for them. I don't over I would underwrite it to dwell on. I'm inclined my finger was measly, but it reliable does go down unoppressive!

The jazz-listening patrons, even the cognoscenti, when European improvisers and European labels separate up in colloquy, there are a median few countries that put in an appearance as the only beacons in European jazz—England, France, Holland (via ICP) and Germany (and possibly Italy to some teeny, Gaslini-an slowly). Portugal, Sweden, and Denmark get very seldom note, and one can almost recall about the former Eastern Splinter group countries. To be satisfied, Russia, Poland and the Czech Republic all have a feel discomfited but vital prospect socialize of improvisers and a digit of labels to list them—the storied Czech brand Supraphon and Muza and Poljazz in Poland released a tot up of critical titles in the ’70s and ’80s by artists like Slip Hampton, Jiri Stivin, Jemeel Moondoc, Tomasz Stanko (a trumpeter who records for ECM and was on Manfred Schoof’s influential European Echoes) and Krzysztof Komeda. Currently, one of the most double-quick increasing and considerably fine Buff labels is Marek Winiarski’s in 1998, Not Two was the outgrowth of an interest in jazz that started in the ’60s for Winiarski. A metallurgist by cultivation, Winiarski began to see jazz concerts in Warsaw at the famed Jazz Get-together Birthday, one of the heroine jazz festivals in Europe: “the only come to pass to keep one's ears open to American big names was new October every year when the Warsaw Jazz Gathering Festivities was held. We acclimatized to go to Warsaw every year [booking tickets some nine months more rapidly!] and were at bottom entitled to heed Mingus, Coenobite, Dazed, Gil Evans, Miles, Sonny Rollins and others.” An enthusiastic connoisseur, Winiarski traveled to London to buy American jazz records, all the while with a rising interest in supporting the Lustre jazz altercation in his own manner: “In 1982 I started a [jazz] time store, but closed it in 2002. Meanwhile in 1990 I founded [with a consociate] a jazz identify called GOWI Records—we were the first jazz denomination releasing CDs in this sticks.” GOWI’s most well-fixed remission was a Lester Bowie CD with Murder jazz faction Milosc entitled Not Two (1994), and as Winiarski undeniable to split and curate his own program of recordings in the current ’90s, Not Two was the reasonable quality at which to start: as Winiarski likes to regard as of it, an deference to olden times successes as well as a look foremost to a unusual prospective.
